This week’s Females of Metal Friday is Raffaella Rivarolo (AKA Cadaveria), Italian musician and viewed as one of the first females to enter into extreme metal back in the 1990’s.

Starting out in the symphonic black metal band Opera IX in 1992, she served as the keyboardist and vocalist until 2001.

After leaving Opera IX, she formed a new project, CADAVERIA. The band name is spelled in all-caps to distinguish the band from Raffaella’s performing name.

She also performs vocals for the industrial metal band DyNAbyte.

She has released 5 albums with Opera IX, 7 with CADAVERIA, and 2 with DyNAbyte.

Sadly in 2018 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to suspend her career to pursue treatment. In the end of 2020, she stated in an interview that she was cured.

Canadian modern metal powerhouse Living Dead Girl has revealed a new video for the title track from their debut album, Exorcism. “This video contains all the elements that are in the song,” says frontwoman Molly Rennick. “It’s got horror, it’s got sex and overall it has a fun, playful energy. It’s the perfect visual to accompany this track!” [via Outburn]

Melodic Death Metal frontrunners The Agonist will release brand new EP Days Before The World Wept on October 15. Watch the music video for new track ‘Remnants In Time’ below. The death metal burner brings non-stop energy throughout, showcasing Psarakis’ multifaceted vocal attack as she nails searing highs, guttural lows and magical clean passages. Just like the track itself, its haunting, conceptual music video’s imagery blends emotive and eerie imagery throughout. I’m a huge fan of horror/sci-fi and makeup transformations, so working with a professional makeup artist and the use of prosthetics was the coolest part for me! Polish alternative rock/metal band Arshenic released a music video for their track ‘Extraterrestrial’, watch it below. The clip was shot according to the script written by the singer, Ofilia, who also wrote the scripts for the band’s previous clips. ‘Extraterrestrial’ is a colorful video in the atmosphere of SFX movies worthy of Netflix. In early June Italian Black/Gothic Metal act Cadaveria had released the single ‘The Woman Who Fell to Earth’. Now the band have premiered the video for the same track. Watch it below. Made by Morbid Vision and shot around an old village in Piedmont, North Italy, among woods and fields, the video was inspired by a shamanic prediction. The images evoke the existence of parallel dimensions and of a multifaceted female presence, at times mysterious, who visits our sick planet to give new energy. Russian symphonic metal band ElisaDay unveils a dramatic music video for ‘Inner War’. Watch it below. ‘Inner War’ is a brand new single taken from the upcoming EP Auftakt. This release is made after a long break in which ElisaDay were facing a serious transformation in their approach to making music and performance. The band would even say “the release was waiting for us to grow up to be finished”. You will meet your best expectations of what symphonic metal should sound like. Symphonic metallers Whyzdom have released a video for the song ‘Notre Dame’ – the first single taken from the new album Of Wonders and Wars, to be released on September 17. The band comments: “This song was entirely composed and written during the night of the 15th of April 2019. That day, a fire broke out in Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. By the time it was extinguished, the emblematic spire had collapsed and centuries of History were reduced to ashes. The song evokes the feelings of band members who actually live a few steps from the Cathedral since childhood, and how Wonders that seem eternal can be destroyed in a few hours. The video plunges from Paris sky to Notre-Dame surroundings, then right into the flames. The shock of witnessing the fire gave the first spark of inspiration for the overall ‘Of Wonders and Wars’ concept, hence its release as the first single of the new Whyzdom album.” [via Metal Goddesses]

Calgary's SYRYN are offering up a new epic single to seduce fans of melodic power metal. Entitled ‘Madness Becomes Me’, the song is a preview to their forthcoming yet-to-be-titled 2022 album to follow their debut 2020 full-length Beyond The Depths. Featuring powerful soaring vocals, storytelling, galloping riffs and rhythm, the track leads the listener on an adventure of "twists, turns and burns".

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult is a black metal band from Dormagen, Germany founded by vocalist and guitarst Onielar (Yvonne Wilczynska) and former drummer Ariovist. The black metal that the band plays is heavily inspired by the seminal Norwegian black metal, basking in the glory of hectic drum blasts and delicious tremolo-picked riffs. In addition, Onielar has proven to be an immensely competent singer, and her guttural screams add a whole other dollop of raw power on the band's already impressive sound.

As one would expect from a band influenced by the genre's original greats, Darkened Nocturn Slaguthercult's lyrics abound with themes like Satanism and brutal, nihilistic critique of modern life are written and delivered in a dead-serious manner. For anyone saying that most newer black metal bands are posers – these guys surely ain't.

Currently, the band consists of Onielar (vocals, rhythm guitar), Velnias (lead guitar), Horrn (drums), and Adversarius (bass). They released their debut album titled "The Pest Called Humanity" back in 1999, and have since enjoyed a prolific career with eleven released studio albums to date. Ilkim Oulanem

Ilkim Oulanem is an extremely talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from Turkey. Her first forays into black metal occurred in 2005, when she founded a trve black metal band called Messerscmit in Ankara. She helmed the band as the bass player and vocalist until 2008, when she released a critically-praised demo titled "Alarm" on which she performed all the instruments as well as vocals.

In the following year, Ilkim would release an EP titled "Iblisbilim", her only other solo release to date. However, despite the relatively small amount of material she put out, her work was vastly praised and Ilkim (deservedly) amassed enough of a cult following for her gigs to be eagerly expected. Check out her song "BOŞLUĞUN LEŞ RUHLARI" and see for yourself what a powerhouse of black metal this woman is:

Cadaveria

Cadaveria (born as Raffaella Rivarolo) is one of the first ladies to have graced the extreme metal scene in the early '90s. She began her career as the vocalist and keyboardist of the Italian melodic black metal band Opera IX in 1992. After championing the band for five albums during eight years, she would leave Opera IX with bandmate Alberto "Flegias" Gaggiotti (who has also been the vocalist of the extreme metal band Necrodeath since 1998) to begin her eponymous solo project.

In the following years, she would release six studio albums through which she acquired a serious reputation in the extreme metal scene both in Italy as well as the rest of the world, with her last being 2016's Mondoscuro, a splt release with Flegias' Necrodeath.

Toward the end of the previous year, Cadaveria emerged victorious from a severe battle with cancer, only confirming how much of a badass this woman is. She has since become a true champion in the battle against breast cancer, by raising research funds and serving as a spokesperson for the cause.
