Thoughts from a really long drive pt. 2: Reigniting a Founding Stone
Those trips back and forth to the old hometown left plenty of time to think of many things. Most of them involved The Worst Witch in some way or another. We’ve chatted about magic and y’all had some fascinating head canons about the whole idea. But magic wasn’t the only thing I wondered about.
What happened when Mirabelle Hubble reignited that Founding Stone? Like, what school did that stone belong to? Was it Cackle’s? What happened to that school? Twelve generations of long-lived witches is a long time. But still, if she’d saved a school, wouldn’t they revere her? Have a statue or portrait somewhere? She saved the school. She prevented a magical black spot from appearing. All of the magical world should know who she is.
In one episode Miss Bat remarks that Cackle’s has student records going back for “the odd millennia” in a drawer in the basement. Maybe she didn’t go to Cackle’s, but shouldn’t Mirabelle show up in some school record? She was older on the family tree so she had a life before and/or after reigniting the stone. How does she disappear without a trace? That makes me wonder if the school failed somehow anyway. Not to mention, how did the stone go out in the first place? Was that more Hallow treachery?
I wonder if the Hallows erased her from history in order to cover up stealing the credit? Perhaps there’s some sort of long-held Hatfield and McCoy feud that fuels Ethel and Mildred’s rivalry and they don’t even know it.
Anyway, I think there could be a really interesting story in what happened to Mirabelle and the Hubbles. Thoughts on this one?
