I Get It — Because I’m There, Too
Hi, I’m Gwendolyn Molina, also known as Gwen The Dem, and I’m running for Congress.
Here’s the thing: a lot of politicians talk like they know what life is like for working people — but they don’t.
I get it. Because I’m living it every single day.
I know what it’s like to work until your body aches, just to open your banking app and wonder where it all went. To try so hard and still feel like you’re slipping further and further behind every month. I’ve lived that kind of exhaustion — not just the physical kind, but the kind that eats away at your hope. The kind that makes you question if doing everything “right” will ever actually be enough.
There was a time I was working three jobs. I’d wake up before the sun, come home long after it set, and still couldn’t make enough to cover the bills. I did everything they told us we were supposed to do — worked hard, followed the rules, kept my head down, kept going. But it always seemed like the rules kept changing. No matter how hard I tried, it never felt like enough. If you’ve ever felt that — that not-so-subtle panic that lives permanently in the pit of your stomach — then you already know what I mean.
That’s why I’m speaking out. Not because I think I have all the answers, but because I know what it feels like to live without any good ones. Because when you’ve had to make impossible choices — between rent and groceries, between taking a day off to care for a sick child or keeping a day’s pay — you start to see the truth. The system isn’t broken. It’s working exactly how they built it. It’s for them — not for us.
It shouldn’t be this way. If you work full-time, you shouldn’t have to live in fear of a flat tire or a medical bill. If you give your time, your energy, your life to keeping this country running — no matter what you do — you should be able to live a life with dignity. But dignity has been turned into a luxury. And that’s not because people stopped working hard; people are more productive now than they’ve ever been. It’s because the people in power stopped listening. They realized they could get away with not caring.
That’s why I’m running for Congress. Because we need leaders who actually know what it’s like — who’ll fight against corporations, for affordable homes, healthcare for everyone, for a living wage and a country that treats every human being with dignity.
I’m here. I’m here to speak with you – not at you. I’ve waited for someone who gets it, too. Someone who knows what it’s like to be tired of doing everything right and still never getting ahead. Someone who doesn’t just talk about “the people,” but is one of the people. So if you’ve ever felt unseen, unheard, unimportant — I want you to know: I see you. Because I AM you.
We deserve better than this. We deserve leaders who don’t just throw us slogans but actually live our reality. We deserve a country where every job can support a person, where every family can rest without worry, and where no one is left behind. And I believe we can build that together.
Because I know what it’s like. And that’s exactly why I’ll never stop fighting for people like us.
