Kennedy sat with her back against the wall of the beached boat, her body folded up until she was hugging her knees into her chest. Nine years ago, she’d come to that very same beach and crawled inside that very same boat, needing that tangible thing to make her feel closer to her father. It was a similar feeling she sought out tonight. “I wish you were here right now,” she whispered into the night, staring off into the dark sea through the battered window of the S.S. Reynold's. The moonlight peered back at her, illuminating the tears that stained her freckled cheeks.
