Elizabeth Aageson of Portland owned this telescope, which was made in London, and that has a reference guide of different British merchant signal flags. Merchant ships flew signal flags representing their owners. Aageson loaned the telescope to the Navy's World War I campaign "Eyes for the Navy." The Navy asked for  telescopes, binoculars, sextants and chronometers to help with the war effort.

This suit is the forerunner of the Sailor Suit, which became popular a little later as the official uniform of the Sailors in the Royal Navy.

This has been very popular since the 18th century, combined with a cannon and a burning glass, is set so that when the sun reaches its highest point at noon, a charge of gunpowder is ignited by the bundled rays of the sun, so that a loud bang sounds. In arsenals and dockyards large specimens were used as call signs for noonday and lunchtime.
