The slave had been dropped back in the Undercroft a few hours before, bruises on his jaw from where a vampire had held him a little too tightly while he fed, ugly red fang marks in his neck. He knew that his wrists held the same bruises, finger marks blossoming in a pattern that showed darkly. The slave was feeling a little light headed, but had never allowed himself to lay down or sleep before the designated bed time for slaves. So he read, eyes blurry, but still focusing enough for him to absorb what he was reading. The slave found himself looking up when a shadow was cast over him and vaguely wondered why he hadn’t heard the footsteps.
  Angelo found himself face to face with Nikolas. “Sir...” He breathed out the word. It had been some time since the other had come to see him. Nikolas was perhaps the only master who had come close to claiming him over the years. Angel had done well at pushing him away-- sometimes he wondered if he had done the right thing at all. “I...” He swallowed. “Good afternoon.” What else was there to say?
