Kenzie often had very exciting nights as a DJ. She worked at a club so of course she felt truly alive when she could use music to cause a reaction in people. She felt cool and unencumbered by her nature of second guessing herself. And she often didn’t have to work at bringing someone home or going back to their places just to take a little bit of their life for herself. That was amazing to her, but her true version of fun was sitting at home, watching all the Sharknado movies one after the other. She sat there, shaking her head, watching the screen. “You’d think they’d learn after the first movie or you know build something to shelter themselves from tornadoes with sharks in them. But no…” she spoke out loud but smiled when she saw her dad approach.

Jasmine had gone over to Julian’s to hang out. She was writing down ideas for possible segments for the radio show when she found herself distractedly making a list of things she could never look at the same anymore. She looked over at him then. “Has anyone ever told you that you ruin everyday household things? Fondue, whipped cream, bananas, pot racks, White Chicks - the movie. I’m compiling a list, not that this list makes me unhappy because on the contrary, it’s a very happy ruining. I just want you to know that every day household items and trips to the grocery store’s produce section remind me of you.”

She was finally here. She was finally going to do it. Kenzie was going to knock on this door and she was going to speak to her father or she was going to chicken out, but where else could she go? Who else did she have now? She was so nervous. She felt like the creepy kid on Doctor Who, but instead of walking around saying ‘Mummy, are you my mummy’, she was applying it to her dad. She really felt like him. Lost, looking for the comfort of the person you have a genetic tie to, but you can’t find him. She wondered how much of his personality she had. Did she look like him? Would she even know it was him?
