He could hear Barton and Raleigh giggling, and then Andee’s squeak, her footsteps coming down the stairs and theirs thundering after her. He looks up in time to see her climb over the back of the couch, hiding out of sight of the two boys.
“Don’t tell them I’m here.” She whispered to her husband.
“She’s on the couch!” Jackson called to the boys, who had headed for the kitchen instead of the living room.
“You! Traitor!” Andee exclaimed, heading for the stairs again only to be intercepted by the boys. She defends herself as best she can, but she and Evelyn did teach them how to wield lightsabers pretty well, so she takes a strike across the stomach from Barton, falling dramatically against the stairs.
"Help… me… Jackson." She wheezed.
"I’m sorry, Darth Anderia. You got yourself into this."
Laughing, she replied, "You’re a terrible Husband."
"And you were just beaten by two Padawan, who is the real problem here?" he asked, glancing over his shoulder at her.
Collapsing her own red saber, she looked at the two boys, who were finally about ready for a nap, give or take a few minutes. Pulling both in for a hug, she grinned. “The Force is strong with these two. I accept defeat. Got a minute to help me put them down for a nap?”
He held up a finger, hurriedly typing to the end of the sentence before standing from the couch and joining her, scooping up Barton.
“Can we play more after naptime, auntie?” Raleigh shyly asked Andee as the four made their way up the stairs.
“Of course we can play more after naptime.” Andee told him, letting him lead the way to the guest bedroom, where they’d set up a fort for the boys the night that they’d arrived.
Once the boys were settled, Barton half-asleep as he crawled under the blankets, Jackson’s hand slipped into Andee’s and they went back downstairs as quietly as possible.
“You look worn out.” He told her, setting his laptop aside and pulling her onto the couch with him.
“I feel worn out. Small children have an unfortunate amount of stamina.” She muttered helplessly into his chest.
“Are you sure you don’t need a nap, too?” he teased.
“Pft, naps are for wimps.” Andee replied, stifling her yawn by hiding her face. “Okay, maybe, like, five minutes.”
