the  way  that  you  were.  god,  he  had  no  idea.  the  person  she'd  been  with  jack,  was  that  even  a  true  reflection  of  herself  ?  florence  wasn't  sure  who  that  really  was  any  more.  instead  she  was  a  collage  of  all  the  places  she's  been,  stitched  together  with  memories  of  places  she  could  never  return  to,  all  in  a  bid  to  hide  este  novak  that  would  always  reside  beneath.  but  he'd  loved  the  person  she  was  now.

she'd  thought  that  her  means  of  packing  up  and  leaving  town  had  been  flawless.  it  always  hurt,  leaving  people  behind  ––  that  much  didn't  change,  no  matter  how  many  times  she  might  have  had  to  relocate.  this  time  had  stung  even  more  so;  leaving  him.  she'd  always  tried  to  keep  herself  at  arms  length  from  everyone.  somehow,  he'd  managed  to  slip  through  the  walls  that  she'd  spent  so  long  crafting.

florence's  chest  tightened,  eyes  fixed  on  his  as  she  processed  the  fact  that  he  was  there.  that  her  escape  route  hadn't  been  as  seamless  as  she'd  thought.  and  a  large  part  of  her  was  pleased  to  see  him.  ❝  how  did  you  find  me  ?  ❞  was  the  only  response  she  could  bring  herself  to  ask.
