Ugh, this team...
Okay, like I definitely saw this coming after the last two years, and I figured the Hawks might makes this move early in the season if they wanted a chance at getting Playoff ready with a new coach in time for post season, but I'm almost positive that this does not bode well for what we were trying to accomplish this year now that so many changes have been made.
I don't think this is Q's fault. We've had almost ten good years with him as our head coach. He brought up the team that gave us three cups, and nothing is ever going to take that away from him.
My advice to the Hawks, instead of firing the entire head coaching staff, they probably should have concentrated on their defense issues, and stopped doubling down on grabbing up young, inexperienced players and hoping for another Toews or Kane. We've had some really good kids in the last few years, but after one or two seasons if we don't get into the playoffs or get booted early, we just give away our young guys and pick up younger, even less knowledgeable ones instead of investing time in the ones we had.
I understand that this is mostly due to the fact that we have like six guys on long contracts so we have to center our team around the core, but we need to find and keep guys who play well with our constants like Artemi, Hartzy, and almost everyone we have given to Arizona and Carolina.
Like I said, I saw this coming, I don't think it was the right move, but all we can do now is wish Q and the rest of the guys good luck, and hope the new coach can find what we've been missing these last few years.
