So, a thought that I have regularly had recently. Generally speaking, there are two camps regarding what you call this vehicle:
It is either a motorbike, or a motorcycle. The difference is regional and, according to Wikipedia, negligible. In the US, motorcycle tends to be preferred, and, as I understand, in the UK, motorbike is preferred.
What I've been fixated on, however, is the word which is used to describe the operator of this vehicle: biker.
So, if we assumed the bike/cycle split is regional, than the operator should also experience the same regional split; that is to say, a US operator of a motorcycle is not a biker, but a cyclist.
