Rick and Unity were together for a while. They hung out and partied together for weeks on end. He even cared about them, but he couldn’t love them. Not in the way that they wanted him to, and not in the way that they deserved, because they deserved better. He could party with them for months, back to back, but staying and being with them, not after Birdperson. After him, everyone else was just for fun. It didn’t matter how much they or even he cared. Fun was safe. He couldn’t get hurt if it was only for fun. But just like Birdperson, after the party ended, Rick was gone.
