as sad as i am about this, i don’t know if i’ll ever finish it either, so i’ll dump it in a read more below!
basically at the time, his abusive parents were getting nervous about the whole situation about monsters & humans getting more tense and wanted him to move with them in the underground. grillby of course ignored all and any of their attempts to contact him.
eventually they tried to blackmail him. as it turns out they had someone keep an eye on him and got some of his juicy dark (murder) secrets, so to protect both himself AND sans he decided to leave, decided to cut off contact with sans because he KNOWS sans is the type that would rather get himself in trouble than let him go without a fight.
he actually kept an eye on them - sans and papyrus - in the underground, trying to make sure they’re alright and safe, but he never really had the guts to face sans again.
