Sturgis made sure he walked back from the kitchens quickly, yet very carefully. The last thing he wanted was to drop the cake he asked the elves to make. That would defeat the whole purpose and the reason he had stayed up so late. He made it back to the common room easily enough, knowing that the stairs leading to the girls dorms was going to be the real challenge. It was Cat’s birthday or was about to be in one minute when midnight hit, if he had planned correctly. He had asked Greta to stay in his dorm that night, he knew how much she wanted to do this with him, but he needed to prove to Cat how much her friendship meant to him. 

He felt immediate relief when he reached the door to Cat and Greta’s dorm. He had made it without dropping the cake. Turning the knob and opening to door, Sturgis was glad to see that Cat was in there sleeping. “Happy Birthday!” He yelled loud enough to wake her up.
