Butterfunk Kitchen-5 star yelp review 1295 Prospect Ave, Windsor Terrace, NY 11218 It was Saturday night at 10pm on a breezy spring night when my lady and I walked into Butterfunk Kitchen. We had already sampled the delicious menu at Brooklyn Commune, so we were ready to take on restaurant number 2. When we arrived, fairly loud live music was playing. Though there were only 3 out of 8 tables being used, you would have had to yell to hear your date. Though the musicians were very talented, I'm happy to say that their set was over a few minutes after we ordered. What did we order you ask? She went with the fried chicken because who wouldn't want that, and I was stuck between an entree of BBQ ribs or 2 starters: the pickled beet dish and the chicken livers. I put my faith in the waitress who voted for the 2 starters. Sometimes when you ask your waiter for a suggestion, they go with the higher priced item. Bigger bill=bigger tip. So I'm happy that she was looking out for my taste buds instead of her pocket. I'm very happy to announce that everything we chose was really good. The fried chicken was very moist and had some flavor on it that I struggled to identify...lemongrass? Ginger? Whatever it was, it was spot on. The rice that came with the chicken was cooked with a buttery brilliance. The picked beets were so much more than just picked beets. They came on a bed of spinach which was mixed with goat cheese, radishes and I don't even know what else because I was too busy shoving it into my face. The chicken liver starter was something else. If you've never had chopped or grilled liver, you're probably not a grandchild of my grandmother. Since I grew up on this stuff I knew what I was ordering. Liver has a very distinct taste, and most people are not a fan. It's similar to blue cheese or duck. Some people love it and some people gag at the smell. Since liver is not something you typically find on a menu, I had to have it, and I'm so glad I did. It was grilled with a slightly crispy exterior and had a delicate bite on the inside. Grilled onions and a sweet thick sauce sat on top. This dish is the dish that will bring liver back to menus all over. Butterfunk you've made it! Now that we were stuffed to the brim with no room to breathe, we asked for a dessert menu. 4 days into my new diet, and Butterfunk goes and throws me an amazing meal...I just couldn't stop. We went with the apple crumble. Cinnamon, apples, soft delicious crumble topped with a creamy vanilla sauce. I have no words. That's a lie. I have so many words. Delicious, smooth, warm, oh yea, yes. Overall a job well done. Highly recommended.
