Description:
Buthus draa is a species that was described very recently in 2004. This is one of the largest species in the genus Buthus with some individuals reaching a length (body and tail) of 10 centimeters. The genus Buthus is in the family Buthidae which contains almost all of the species known to possess medically significant venom towards people. Buthus draa was first described to be found in the area called Draa which is a river valley in Morroco. The name Buthus draa means “ox killer of the Draa River Valley” in latin.
