OKAY FINE but i do think that the lothlorien stuff about new-made/super-ancient etc seems more like ‘ah this stuff is a metaphor conveying the idea of timelessness or immortal life or memory or something’ but it’s like. literally exactly what it says. but maybe that’s giving 10 year old me too little credit for overthinking everything. so. um.
Does it matter whether it reads as a metaphor though? Like, sorry, not to dig my heels in, but my original point was just that Lothlorien and Rivendell are dealing in two different unreality flavors---one extremely obvious (because crawling with oxymorons) and one rather subtle (“what if bed and breakfasts............... were good”)
