one eye blinks shut, focus completely on the sky as lachlan reclines back onto one of the bigger rocks atop the mountain. sniper is mounted beside him, pointed down towards a lower dip in the land. hand soon lifts, fingers forming an l - shape as he sets his attention on just one small part of the sky. the boy’s lips can be seen moving as he silently counts the number of stars in his little corner of the night sky. somewhere far off, he can hear rustling. the noise doesn’t startle him –– rotters don’t stalk, they hunt. they aren’t courteous or quiet at night. ❛  i can hear you.  ❜ head barely turns in the direction of the sound. he assumes he’s safe, too, because the infected don’t usually lounge around and speak coherently.  ❛  you’re very bad at sneaking up on people.  ❜ people aren’t threats, not unless they’re aggressive towards him first. curiosity makes him turn his head towards the source, arms dropping to rest upon his chest as he awaits the reveal of his newfound company.
