Jackson looked up from the morning paper to see the rabbit standing at the door, grinning a little forcibly. Or so he assumed. Perhaps she was just nervous. She was still fairly new to the town but did she truly have a reason to fear someone of high power? After all, he did give her a prominent position in the office shortly upon her arrival. 

“Patric-”

“Patti, sir.”

The rabbit twitched her nose, whiskers flicking in slight annoyance. Oh shit. Showing attitude to her superior? Part of her couldn’t give a fuck but there was a lingering feeling in the back of her mind that that was a mistake. Her throat tightened, gaze wandering aimlessly and then she heard another knock on the door. 

“Jackson!”

A taller female rabbit stepped into the office. Jackson clicked his tongue and grinned.

“Fanny, long time no see.”

“I suppose I could say the same thing to you, sweetheart. You’ve been giving me so much work.”

“What? I thought you liked work.”

“You’re hilarious.”

Patti watched speechlessly as the two shared a laugh. Oh, who was she kidding? Considering his prominent status as founder of the town, she had no chances with him. Or was she trying to press her luck in the first place? The feelings would pass in time, she hoped.

Ears slumping to her shoulders, Patti made her way toward the door. Jackson watched briefly with a scrunched brow. Even Fanny, who then asked who this new girl was. 

“Oh, her?”

Patti closed the door behind her before she could hear the rest.
