Ingredients: 1 cup warm water. 1 tablespoon active dry yeast. 1/4 cup granulated sugar. 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1 egg. 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 teaspoon salt. 1 egg yolk. 1 tablespoon water. Sesame seeds optional, for topping.
Instructions: In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. Add melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture, stir to combine. In a separate bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add flour mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 375F 190C. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover the dough balls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes. In a small bowl, whisk together egg yolk and water. Brush the tops of the dough balls with the egg wash and sprinkle sesame seeds if desired. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let the buns cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
