His hands slip underneath her shirt in turn, rubbing slow, soothing circles on her back as they continue to kiss. What had started as a silly flurry of kisses shifted into something more intimate.

Caden said nothing for a moment. It was... not a comment he was expecting, if he was honest. He didn't really want to meet Elara's gaze because it hurt him a bit just to hear something like that. It hurt more knowing he had been with her as a knight for a while and, well... he hadn't expected to be gone as long as he was, to be frank.

A lot of it had just been him out fighting a war, having to be far away from her and the kingdom he had gotten to know fairly well. It had been a weird feeling then and was still a pretty weird feeling now. He just didn't want to keep leaving her like he had, but... at the rate they were going, he wouldn't be too surprised if he had to leave again at some point because, well... it hadn't seemed like there would be any stopping the war unless things changed quite quickly before he went back.

He raised his head slightly to look at her for a few moments, to study her, to see if there was anything in her eyes to show what other emotions she had regarding the situation, and, well.. he couldn't really find any. He really couldn't.

❝Elara, I'm... sorry for leaving you,❞ he responded softly with a sadened look on his face as his ears folded back just a bit as he looked at her still. ❝I didn't think I wanted to leave you in any capacity, but... I did not have a choice in the matter. You know how important it was for me to be on the frontliness, I have no control over that.❞

He gently took her hands into his, and he pulled her a bit closer and gave her a soft smile. Anything to just try and make this conversation a little bit easier for both of them, which did not seem to be that easy to begin with.

Caden was... not someone who normally did much kindness for anyone, nor did he ever have people who did kindness for him as well. But this felt like... an exception to a degree. Maybe it was just because he had felt like he had been the Royal Knight of the princess long enough, or because it was something else within him that was telling him he should be kind to more people.

He honestly didn't know.

But what the knight had done was carve out some time for the bunny and him to go out and have a nice afternoon in the garden of the palace. He was able to clear both their schedules in their entirety, found out what some of her favorite flowers were to help make the garden pop a bit more, and overall was just doing what he could to make it a nice afternoon. He honestly went as far as to not even bother wearing his armor out with her, simply being there in his more casual clothing.

But to see her walk out after he had sent for her to be fetched for him and to see the look of surprise and shock on her face? Oh that meant everything to him. It really made him feel happy in the moment, and it certainly seemed like she was pleased with what he had done so far, from what he could tell. But the way she responded, well... that was a bit unexpected.

❝I hope, judging by your reaction, that means you appreciate the gesture,❞ he commented with a small, albeit nervous, chuckle as he watched her for a few moments. ❝I went through some fun planning to try and sort out what sort of things you enjoyed and, well... I think it might have paid off.❞

There was no real reason he had done this for both of them, other than just wanting to be nice. He still couldn't say for sure why he had done it, but at the end of the day... she seemed thrilled that he had done anything at all.

It was pretty obvious that High Tide often followed orders to a T with little to no argument, but this time? This time he was a bit concerned when Elara was bold with what he was requesting from the knight. As long as he didn't put that much strength it would he alright... right?

. He chokes an exhilarated laugh at the biters sloshing into the water after them, sinking one-by-one to the neck, and then fully below the murky surface. Adrenaline is shaking him from joint to joint and his pupils are shrunk to the size of pinpricks, darting about, tracking the ripples in the water beneath them as they grow smaller and smaller and eventually smooth out. 

. “Bad time to mention I didn’t pack any life jackets?” A piteous attempt at humor, undercut by the subtle tremor in his voice.
