A week ago I attended a protest to demand the release the victims of arbitrary arrest under the State of Exception which was imposed a year ago. The image which stuck to me was of a child who was playing as he walked along the protestors with a message written by hand “FREE MY DAD”, his father has been in jail for months .The civil society as well as national and international human rights organizations have criticized for lack of due process and the use of torture against detainees. Hace una semana asistí a una protesta para exigir la liberación de las víctimas de detenciones arbitrarias bajo el Régimen de Excepción impuesto hace un año. La imagen que se me quedó grabada fue la de un niño que jugaba mientras caminaba junto a los manifestantes con un mensaje escrito a mano "LIBERAD A MI PAPÁ", su padre lleva meses en la cárcel. A Year Under the State of Exception - Un Año Bajo el Estado de Excepción El Salvador has been under a State of Exception for a year. Under this measure the country is living one of the safest periods in decades, communities which were terrified by the gangs now sound. The strategy of President Nayib Bukele to fight the gangs has gained popularity among the general Salvadoran population as well as international attention. The civil society as well as national and international human rights organizations have criticized for lack of due process and the use of torture against detainees.to demand the release of all innocent victims in prison. For now, peace and safety is real but created by an illusion that it will stay this way forever. El Salvador lleva un año bajo Regimen de Excepción. Bajo esta medida el país vive uno de los periodos más seguros en décadas, las comunidades que estaban aterrorizadas por las pandillas ahora están tranquilas. La estrategia del Presidente Nayib Bukele para combatir a las pandillas ha ganado popularidad entre la población salvadoreña en general, así como la atención internacional. La sociedad civil y las organizaciones nacionales e internacionales de derechos humanos han criticado la falta de garantías procesales y el uso de la tortura contra los detenidos, y han exigido la liberación de todas las víctimas inocentes encarceladas.
