My garden is overproducing this year! I have more zucchinis and tomatoes than I know what to do with! I’d like to share some of them with the Horrortale boys, if they’re interested! And I have zucchini-banana muffins and cinnamon zucchini coffee cake. Seriously, take some of this off my hands, lads! Please!
I made it quite a bit longer and more detailed than I planned as a thank you for being the first one to talk to the boys. Thank you so much for the support, it means a lot 🥰!
(Btw, my version of the boys have all been on the surface for a few years now)
Looking down at all the food you brought I can’t help but laugh for a second while pulling out my phone to send a quick text before leaning closer with a soft smile.
“Sometimes they can be pretty hesitant to interact with people they don’t know, but they’ve gotten way better in the recent years. Plus, if they won’t take the food, I will, ahaha!”
The faint smell of copper wafts in the room for a second before Axe blips into existence.
“...ya called? Didn’t wanna bother m’bro, he was gardening... hope it’s ok that I-”
Axe’s large form stiffened slightly, having noticing all the food you brought. His eye lights dilate as he switches between looking at you and the food.
A quick look back at my nodding head let him know he was right. Axe hesitates to make a move and looks back at the food with a slightly vacant expression. You can tell he’s struggling with whether he should swallow his pride and accept the food or just let me handle it.
He wants to believe that you’re doing this because you’re a generous person, but the little voice in his head (which has gotten quieter since they’ve all been on the surface) is trying to convince him you’re only pitying him or using food to get to his brother. Luckily enough, it’s not hard to know what he really wants and is truly, very grateful for, all he needs is a push.
“It looks kinda heavy, maybe you should help out by taking it off their hands?”
After another minute of observing, a small chuckle vibrates in his rib cage as he takes a slightly hesitant step forward and holds out his hands to take it from you.
As he wraps his massive arms around what you’ve brought, you can feel the roughness of his bones against your skin but when you look into his wavering eye lights, all you see is softness and it’s easy to forget that he can be a very dangerous monster if provoked.
“Heh... thanks... nice t’know there are still kind people n’the world..”
He takes a step back and winks slowly, his guard slipping slightly as you smile back.
“Go ahead and take that to the kitchen, Axe, I’ll see our lovely guest out!”
Looking to his side, he nods in my direction before turning back to you, smile gracing his rough, scared face.
“...Thanks again, Paps’ll be real happy... See y’round, kid.”
As he disappears before your eyes, I turn and lead you back to the door. While I thank you again for bringing such amazing gifts, I can’t help but smile, knowing how much it meant to Axe.
And if you could see the way his eyelights wobbled when he set all the food down on the kitchen counter, you’d know too.
