Iâm like 5 million years late replying to this. Sorry! Thank you so much for the request.
7. Youâve gone to the bathroom fifty times today.
Ever since moving to New York City, Betty had felt like she was living in a fairytale. With Jughead by her side in their tiny one bedroom apartment, she couldnât imagine life getting any better than this.
And yet, something was⊠unsettling. There was a thorn in her side that simply wouldnât come out. Finally, she knew what she had to do.
âHey, Jug?â She called toward the bathroom.
âYeah?â His voice was at an odd pitch as though something was going on, but Bettyâs nerves caused her to push that thought aside.
âI think we need to go back. Today.â
The bathroom door swung open immediately. âBut⊠We canât. Any other day. Just⊠Not today.â
âIf we donât go today, weâll keep putting it off and never end up going. I just need some peace. After being away for three years, I think itâs important for Riverdale to just be a random dot on a map, rather than a hellhole that still haunts me.â Betty saw he still wasnât on board. She walked toward him and placed her hands on either side of his face. âPlease, Jug. I donât want to do this alone.â
He couldnât say no to those light blue-green eyes peering up at him.
âFine⊠I just have to run to the bathroom first.â
In a booth at Popâs, Betty let out a sigh of relief. They were still alive. Chaos had not ensued. Yet.
Jughead plopped down on the other side of the booth, but the moment he was in his seat, his phone started to buzz. âI⊠Have to go to the bathroom.â He was about to stand, but Betty laid her hand on his.
âYouâve gone to the bathroom fifty times today. Whatâs going on?â
He sighed, then mumbled something inaudibly.
âWhat?â Betty leaned in closer.
âI hired a quartet and then told them not to come since we wouldnât be home. But now they keep calling and Iâve been trying to hide it.â
She smiled and let a small laugh escape her lips. âDid you hire them for any particular reason or just a spur of the moment kind of thing?â When he didnât respond, she took in a sharp breath. âOh. Oh my God.â
Jughead knelt before her as the waiter placed down their milkshakes and awkwardly walked away, trying not to ruin the moment.
âBetty Cooper. I wanted to do something special. Something extravagant because you deserve the best. And now I do realize my original plan just wasnât us. This is us. Going on adventures together. Drinking milkshakes at diners. Always supporting one another. So I hope youâll go on this next journey with me. Will you make me the happiest weirdo alive, and marry me?â
Tears collected in her eyes and she nodded her head, unable to speak. She pressed her lips to his. Her hands tangled into his hair as she pulled him closer to her. âSo glad youâre my weirdo,â she whispered against his lips.
Maybe Riverdale didnât need to be a small, meaningless dot on a map. Because even though there were tragedies in her life when she lived here, it wasnât all bad. She met her best friends here. She fell in love. And now she had just got engaged to her soulmate. Riverdale will always be the place of happiness and heartache. And Betty was finally perfectly okay with that.
