Jughead always thought he was destined to be alone ever since a million dollar target was put on his back. What's worse is that one of the hunters had to be a Cooper. Betty Cooper.
Rumors say that she was aspiring to be her family's next matriarch. In conclusion: she wasn't after the money, which Jughead was oddly glad to hear.
Betty chased him for approval and tradition, and although she spared him - after he pleaded to enjoy what little time he had left - she still anticipated the day she would bring his head home to her aunt.
But like every cliched story, those thoughts flew away like dust as they grew to be friends, maybe even neared to be something more. Either way, they got attached, so much so, that when it was finally time to choose life or death, Betty hesitated.
It was either him or the world, yet she couldn't even bring herself to point a weapon at his direction anymore. It was taking her such a long time to decide until Jughead chose for her.
And as his cold, red blood covered her hands, they could only focus on immense regret, not for how their story began but for how it ended.

I worked on this bughead comic project between 2018 and 2019. While at this point I don’t plan on finishing the project, I did want to share the in progress pages and overall script. I hope you are still able to enjoy it in this incomplete stage!

These pages are really rough, but I will also include the written script below!

“Betty?”
Her expression hardens to frustrated confusion. She straightens up and pushes Jughead back with her hands.
“Jughead!” His face immediately drains. “This whole time! It was you this whole time!”
“Betty-”

“If you were embarrassed, or regretted it, you still could have told me! Instead you’ve just been letting me go on all morning, like an idiot.” She grows red, and tears build in her eyes.
Jughead holds her shoulders firmly, interrupting her rant “Stop, Betty. It wasn’t like that.”

His expression is pained, “I just. I just didn’t want to disappoint you. You thought you had some encounter with prince charming, or, god, I don’t know. But it was just me.”
Betty looks hurt, “Do you regret it? You didn’t like it the way I did?”
He closes his eyes, and lifts his head back, “Jesus, Betty. Of course I liked it, I've wanted- I've wanted to kiss you for years, but I know I’m just a friend to you, and that’s fine-”
“What?” Betty interrupts him. “You’re the one who-”

Flashback to 11th grade, Jughead is begrudgingly sitting on a couch squished next to Betty and the armrest. “Why am I here…”
Betty smiles at him sympathetically.
“Jughead!” Cheryl says, turning on him. “Truth or dare?” Jughead closes his eyes in pain.
“Fine. Dare.”
Cheryl’s smile as a devilish gleam. “Alright. I dare you to kiss our little lonely Girl-next-door, Betty Cooper.”
Jughead opens his eyes and glares at Cheryl. Betty turns red next to him, but glances his way.

With a deep sigh, Jughead sits up, reaches to hold Betty’s cheeks, and kisses Betty intently on the forehead.
As he sits back, he huffs, “I’m not going to make out with a friend for your amusement, Cheryl.”
Beside him, Betty’s smile is a bit forced.

“All this time I was just trying to be a good friend to you,” Betty says, frustrated.
“What do you think I was doing?” Jughead responds. “You already had that whole mess with Archie, did you really need it with me too? After everything was finally fine with him, you wanted me to just jump in and tell you I’d been crushing on you since middle school?
Betty huffs, “You’re so stubborn.
She pulls him forcefully into a kiss, pulling him down to her by his collar.
When she pulls away she says, “And yes, I would have loved it if you had said that.”

Jughead breaths out and leans back toward her for another kiss.
