Something wild about me from when I was a child bc Iām in a mood: ok so when I was younger (like 2nd grade) I had very early on accepted the āIām not like other girlsā attitude. I had went to a Jewish day school and though the girls and boys were in the same building, (pretty scandalous, I know) we didnāt have boys in our class. This caused the boy obsession that seeds in āpopular girlsā to have a very early onset. Because I didnāt feel the same way about boys and had no interest staring out of the second floor window while they had lunch break, it was proof to me that I wasnāt like other girlās and it wasnāt something I was just imagining. (Oh past me, you are ace and a dumbass)Ā
Anyways enough background. So one day during recess, some of the girls were freaking the fuck out. Even though I wasnāt like other girls, I was still curious so I went over to them to see what was up. Turns out they found a huge ass praying mantis on a leaf and were shrieking their asses off. I was kinda scared of bugs at that age for some reason. I just thought that they were pretty creepy and I didnāt really want anything to do with them. When I saw how lame the other girls looked while freaking out over a bug no bigger than a thumb, I had an epiphany. At that moment in time, I decided I wouldnāt be afraid of bugs anymore.Ā
I stepped into the middle of the shrieking girls and picked up the praying mantis and carried it over to the side where it would be safe. The girls shrieked some more and it was super annoying. Later that day, I went to the school library and checked out a book about bugs. After the first bug incident, I was now the official consultant on bugs. Girls in my class would call me over and ask me what kind of bug they were terrified of at the moment. By the end of the year I had picked up several praying mantises, pincer bugs, grasshoppers, and even two bees.Ā
tl;dr I forced myself to not be afraid of bugs and became the bug girl in second grade and it was solely because I hated the girls in my class.
Like father, like son! They both hate bugs (albeit for slightly different reasons) and freak out/run away at the sight. But the fact remains that the first person he wished was around to help him was none other than... his dad! Awww...

Can you tell me something cool about crane flies ācause I have an irrational fear of them.
They're completely harmless!!! Here's a quick lil video about them~
Also they can be very pretty! My fav are phantom crane flies:

So I've got pretty intense bug scares, but after following you for a while I decided to make an OC who is just so obsessed with bugs that she wants to be an entomologist and it's genuinely changed how I interact with bugs. I saw a house centipede last night and just got a cup and a bit of paper and scooped her right up to help her outside. It's looking like we won't get another freeze this season, so I'm sure she'll be fine out there, but I'm just so proud of myself for it and I wanted to share that and say thank you for helping me work on that. <3 Peace, love, and centipedes on planet earth
That's amazing, I'm happy you're overcoming your fear!
I wanna thank you for running such a nice positive blog! I used to love bugs and insects as a kid but due to.... many things, developed a fear of them as i got older.
Your blog is a great way to help me desensitize my brain and enjoy something i used to love again. (Although i still have to quickly scroll past any being held. Baby steps for now)
Much love!
I'm so glad you're learning to love bugs again! I also loved bugs as a child and then developed a fear of some of them due to the adults around me teaching me that they were scary. Sad. Wish people would be careful about how they talk about bugs around kids.
