"Oh, hey, kid!" Linus called out, whistling sharply to make sure he got the boy's attention. "I've almost all outta candy for the night, but I still got some real choice ones left!"
He rustles the inconspicuous sack idly held in his hands.
"Go ahead and grab some!"
Definitely not suspicious at all! There's something in the bag alright, but hissing cockroaches probably wouldn't be considered a treat by most people. They were harmless -- they just skittered around and made noise when disturbed, like by a hand reaching into the bag they were in.
"Oh, Professor!" Edward looks up, lighting up as he does, then further when he sees the bag. "Candy? Don't mind if I do. Thank you!"
He doesn't bother trying to peer into the bag beforehand, standing to grab a reasonable amount of treats — Though, when he makes contact with a little trick skittering and hissing at and over his fingers instead, the boy, predictably, yelps.
Unpredictably, though, his hand's still in the bag. He even starts rummaging in it gently, ignoring the hissing, his grin taking on a slightly manic glint, before pulling his hand out in a loose fist, two flailing antennae poking out between his fingers; He thrusts his fist out towards Linus, unfurling one finger to reveal the roach, wiggling.
"Happy harvest festival, I guess?!" he laughs, bewildered, opening his hand fully — Unable to fly, the insect starts skittering across his fingers as opposed to jumping into Linus' face in a tizzy, and Edward turns his hand to keep it from falling off as it scuttles. "Show me that bag! How'd you catch so many?!"
