i don’t usually post myself on socials but since ive already posted this on twitter in order to get people to find me… might as well post on tumblr too. lol

i live in malaysia and finding malaysians with common interests is hard as fuck!!! (observations)

since its miku expo (high chance of encountering vocal synth nerds) i thought the best way to meet adachi rei fans is to. well. (make it extremely obvious i am a adachi rei fan) i prepped a adachi rei ita bag. i wore a adachi rei shirt. surely people must know im a adachi rei fan. (normal)

for this event I printed about

70 ish miku sticker sheets

80 teto stickers

50 rei sticker sheets

through passing out the freebies, i used it to gauge how much of malaysian vocal synth fans know about UTAU/adachi rei (since it’s quite hard to come across malaysians in vocal synth spaces. …)

from what i observed:

3-4 teto cosplayers spotted out of thousands of people at the venue

more than half of people i offered teto stickers to did not know who kasane teto is (which was quite mind blowing to me considering how recent popular miku songs have teto paired together…)

Though luckily; there were about 10ish people who knew who adachi rei was. and only (1) person called her heat abnormal (I honestly expected the number of “heat abnormal”s to be higher. lol)

I think it’s quite interesting to me that in miku expo (from other countries) there would be higher numbers of teto cosplayers/fans but in miku expo kl the number was quite low.

vocal synth (outside of miku) still remains quite unpopular in malaysia afterall </3

The concert itself

we had seated tickets. but we all ended up standing up anyway because people ended up standing and caused everyone else to get blocked. (quite infuriating, really…)

but I think the concert was really good! they started off with really popular songs and the way miku was bouncing and dancing so cutely made me tear up. it rlly does feel like im 10 years old browsing videos of miku on the internet, except she’s actually infront of me… its such a special feeling to have grown aside vocal synth and now being an adult, being able to see miku in person. the concert really brings out the charm of vocal synths.

they also had a solo for every member of the band performing at miku expo! it was so crazy how talented people were.

they played rolling girl/wowaka too, and I nearly sobbed because it was one of the first vocaloid songs I had exposure to as a child, and it really is special hearing it performed live. what a privilege to be able to live to adulthood and hear this song, that wowakas works will live on even if he’s gone :”)

they also played magical love cure! as you’d expect, it’s a really perfect song to be playing at a concert— the cheers in the song made crowd interactions really good. the miku miku beam was really fun too!!!

Special interactions I’ve had

i saw a Adachi Rei cosplayer today! they were accompanied by their dad and seemed like a teenager. I got so excited because it’s my first time seeing a Adachi Rei cosplayer (when Adachi Rei fans are already as rare as unicorns…)

i got a pic with them and gave them my stickers!

There was 2 people who specifically asked for my adachi rei sticker sheets (one of them was a Retry now! miku cosplayer!)

i also had 3 people recognise the deforei keychain on my bag, and 2 people asked to take a picture of my Adachi Rei itabag!! there were several people who came up to me to say that they noticed it’s Adachi Rei (all according to plan…!!!) im really glad that i brought my itabag out, because I wouldn’t have known that Adachi Rei fans existed near me

Other things

I gave out all of my sticker sheets, which means I’ve interacted with at least 80+ people today (damn..!!!)

I got a lot of freebies through my interactions with others today and met a lot of talented artists!!!! :) my only regret is that i wish id asked people for their socials. (sobs) i got so many freebies but i dont remember a lot of who made what ;__;

(look! there’s adachi rei among the freebies. I’ve truly won the miku expo lottery)
