sir, i will forever love you as giles and uthar pendragon. as giles you balanced soft and careing with calculation and strength. making you one of my favrets . a charector that is both lovible, silly, steong, and worth looking up to. one that likly shaped the sort of teachers i gravitated tword .
as somone who is very adio orented, and who has a fasination with prety eyes. well. your voice, speaking, singing, yelling, whatever. is one of the most plesant things to listen to. i absolutly adore it.
and as somone with faceblindness but a fixation on eyes(because i like prety eyes and recognize peopke that way) , i never got toerd of close up shots on that lovly heterchromia.
i loved the perfomances is many many things. most recently the drunken gay freind in a silly romance movie. or singing, or stage, or anything. alwasy a treat.
but your performance as uthar pendragon in the bbc merlin is by leaps and bounds my favret. the show can be silly. but uthar is incredible in this. the performance is complex and captivating. uthars hatred of magic and his unbending nature should make him very hatible, he IS hatible. but this depiction of uthar is the only one where you also see a loving father, and a care for his people. thst he makes swift hard and iriverisible choices for what he beleaves is the saftey of his people, you also see he ocasinaly regrets them. he is one moment cold and brutal, seemingly without compassion. in the next he is fearing for his people and his son, or for his ward. his deep care for his ward for morgana, treating her as his daughter (because she is), and yet the calculation of not claiming her or telling her the truth. his cruilty and hatred is balanced by gravatas and regality, but also by a deep love of his son. yes alot of this is wrighting. but it takes a hell of an actor pull off so many complex and often conflicting moods and emotions , and to do so with sudtley and grace, its rwaly a master performance. its the only depiction of uther pendragon that i have both a deep hatred and deep love of the charector.
despite the show often being abit silly, the nuance of the performance is top notch. and is one of my very favrets to watch.
im actualy watchjng it now. uther was speaking when i saw the headline.
anthoney head was outspoken on queer rights. he was partly responsble for the role of gwenivere going to a black actress. he was a champion for the arts, both film and stage, and an avid suporter of programs for underprivlegd kids. beleave accsess to the arts should be avalible to all regardless of incom leval.
i always thought he was one of those actors that didnt get the recognition he deserved for his skill. weather on stage, or singing, or in a music vidio, or tv, or movie screens, he just always deliverd incredible performances. but part of why i liked him is because he was always seeming to try and help people.
i will very much miss his performances. ( he was also one of my earlyer age inapropret crushes)
" was i a good watcher?" no. but you were the best.
rest in peace sir. thankyou for all the wonderful art.
