What do you think the journalists are actually told when setting up/doing an interview and by whom? Would they be told “X” is off limits? I mean they can always speculate, but this feels different.

Okay Nonny, first a disclaimer: I don't work in Hollywood and I have no inside information. So no cousins who work on set unfortunately. 🤣

But, I have been in fandom spaces for 25 years now and I have been in this particular fandom since 2019. There was a time, during the Kristen Reidel period when Buddie was a topic that was hardly mentioned.

I'm not an expert, but I do know that interview questions are vetted by networks and showrunners before journalists get the green light to do the interview. If the network doesn't like a question, that question gets dropped.

Oliver even famously stopped interacting with Buddie posts and stopped commenting on them, because he was aware that his words were always taken as hope and he didn't want to give people false hope.

Season 6 was a dire time for Buddie fans, since that season ended with both of the men being pushed into 'forced' relationships and the show was cancelled.

But then ABC took over and everything changed. The Buddie promo was possible again. It was even welcomed. We all remember the heavy Buddie promo before season 7 right? I'm convinced that Tim, ABC and ryliver already knew that Buddie was happening, they just weren't sure about the timeline yet. It all depended on how well the show would do on ABC and if it would be renewed for another season.

But ever since season 7 Buddie was talked about again. The press were allowed to ask questions about them and the actors happily answered. The reporters could feel the shift and they had to wonder, like all of us did, why that shift was there in the first place.

If Buddie wasn't in the cards, surely they would have spent more time hyping up Tommy and the BT relationship. Instead the reporters kept asking Oliver if -now that he was bisexual- Buddie could ever happen. Tommy was hardly mentioned in any of these interviews, which obviously made him a plot device character.

Now I do wonder if the journalists have received some more information than the audience. Because they are leaning into it heavily right now. They all clearly agree on Buddie going canon.

Partly because it's obvious from space where their storyline is going, partly because of the reason I mentioned before on how they are so free to talk about Buddie to the actors and showrunner, but maybe also partly because they have gotten some nuggets of information that us mere mortals haven't?

Who knows?

I love this for us. This fandom needed a win and now we're actually getting the full victory.

The way that everyone with eyes, including the journalists, have come to the same 'Buddie canon' conclusion. And the way they are all actually allowed to talk about it.

Q. Sarcasm goes both ways, dumbass. So that line can be read as sarcastic either way. It can be read as sarcastic towards the people who ship them or it can be read as sarcastic towards the people who don't. It depends on your opinion of the topic. So we don't know the author's sarcastic intentions because we don't know what their opinion on Buddie is. Hope that helps. I know intelligence is hard.

A. Why do you all act like you've never human'd before? Sarcasm does go both ways but not in the same line, dumbass. The wording of the line would be different depending on which viewpoint the writer wanted the reader to take as truth. So for instance the line we are talking about was saying, very clearly, that believing their just bestie bros at this point is kind of ridiculous. Now if the writer was making a statement about how ridiculous the idea of anything romantic between them is, they would have written something entirely different. Something more like:

"News of Eddie's potential move came as a surprise to his bestie Buck, weird for a supposed pair of soulmates who can read each other's every thought".

See the difference? That line is clearly mocking the idea of them as romantic partners. You can't read every piece of sarcasm as sarcastic towards both ideas. That's not a thing. Just like believing every scene we see on television is open to the viewer's interpretation to determine what it actually means is not a thing. Intention exists. And it exists obviously within the text of most things. Some things are open to the readers, or the viewers, interpretation, but not most things. Most things have an intended purpose and a particular conclusion the audience is supposed to come to. Hope that helps, jackass. I know intelligence is hard. Seriously there is no way you all are actually this stupid. And if you have to pretend to be this stupid in order for your character/ship to still sound possible then that should tell you something. Nevermind, convincing yourselves that none of this is weird or crazy behavior already tells me everything I need to know about your intelligence.

What is it with the rudeness of these people? There is a better, more polite way to ask someone a question or to make a point if you don't agree with someone else's take.

It's like these people are willfully ignoring every single thing that is buddie-positive because they are convinced that we are all having some sort of mass-delusion that Buddie is going canon in 8b. At the same time they are convinced that BT are soulmates, which... no. 🤷‍♀️

I'm so tired of dealing with these people. I hope they all just go away during 8b as soon as they see that Buddie is really happening. 🤞🤞🤞

Oh no, definitely not. I never implied that in my other post either. I clearly stated that I was talking about interviews and nothing else.

Articles like Lizzie's are purely opinion pieces. They're lovely, but they aren't directly connected to the show, since there's no interview attached.

I was merely speaking about the interviews and the questions the journalists can or can't ask the actors. Those questions are definitely vetted before they can be asked.

However, I do think we can read into those opinion pieces a little. Not too much, but just a little. These people deal with TV-shows every single day. It's their job. They have so much more insight into the structure of these shows and how the storylines progress.

Of course these pieces aren't evidence. They are subjective by nature. But that doesn't mean that so many of these pieces have come out over the last month that it will make the GA think about Buddie and maybe start seeing them in a different light. And that is definitely something that would benefit ABC and the show itself.

This just made me have to sit down and go huh.

Like it’s really truly 100 percent happening. Which was already pretty clear. But this just kinda made it really click that omg. It’s really happening.

And seeing that first photo, with the journalist Lizzie joining in now too. Like her saying she has a buddie article wrote that she planned to release on 8B premiere day but might release tomorrow (Today now since it was last night) has me wondering if any of the other journalists also have additional buddie articles ready for premiere day.

Which… is not a sentence I ever thought I’d be able to say and it makes me extremely giddy that it’s one I can say now.

You're right though. Something shifted when the show moved to ABC and now it's all culminating into something even bigger and better for Buddie: canon!
