buck’s storyline in 9x11 is also about his bisexuality. the show is allergic to actually saying the word bisexual and acknowledging that’s what buck is, so it’s subtextual, but it’s definitely there. buck reflecting on how he has changed and how he sees himself so differently now compared to his past is also about coming out. he parties less, he sleeps more, he bakes, and he also loves both men and women. and he likes the new buck, he has accepted himself- but he doesn’t know if the rest of the world will

the thing is buck has never really lost someone. he's never experienced grief before. not in the way maddie and his parents have with daniel, in the way bobby has with his family, in the way athena has with emmett, in the way chimney has with his mother and kevin, in the way eddie and chris have with shannon- even hen has had to make the decision to pull the plug on her father, though she didn't really know him. buck has experienced loss in many different ways and he has had to fear someone he loves dying many, many times, but he has never had to mourn or handle the death of someone close to him in the long term before.

just thinking about the s6 premiere and how as soon as bobby found out from hen that buck was trying to impress bobby with his captain potential bobby immediately understood what was going on and how best to talk to buck about it. like he just knew how to handle it, and then he did that. he went to buck and began by acknowledging buck's strengths and value as a firefighter before emphasising that not choosing him was not because there was something wrong with buck, or because of a lack of appreciation. he approached him with kindness and understanding and he communicated honestly and then he let buck talk through his current internal issues and offered advice and reassurance. because he knows buck and what he needs, he knows how to address buck's insecurities and how to reassure him. and he does it easily and immediately like <3 I love him I love bobby nash
