If you’re asking which one I think is perfectly suitable for getting pulled on, it’s both! I do favor TLOU/TLOU II flashback shorter hair a slight bit, I think.
Honestly, the sheer fact that we see that Tommy’s gone “fuck it” and ponytailed it means Joel has some weird insistence on keeping his short that overrides practicality. I feel like the TLOU II hair was a “hey look, time has passed for this character,” thing, which...he’s more grey? That would have sufficed? He sleeps with reading glasses by his bed?
So with that, my other quibble is that winter in Wyoming has to be freezing and if keeping it longer in the back was maybe a concession to “we simply cannot put a hat on Joel, no matter how many feet of snow there are,” I don’t even know anymore, Naughty Dog.
^This is still peak Joel to me and I fully imagine that even in Jackson he’d beg Ellie to help keep it that way, probably with a few butterfly-knife-near-misses.
