hihi! i thought i’d drop a fun update to my progress on my sweet nightmares fic since i originally wanted to get it out by mid-october…however, im apparently a writing masochist, because of this:
thats right folks, your eyes arent deceiving you!!! ive been writing this bitch BY HAND in a journal for the past few weeks (when my mental state and energy levels were at good points at least).
after being frustrated with an initial digital draft and partially scrapping it, the youtube gods decided to show me a video about neil gaiman’s writing routine, and i decided to give it a shot since this was my first big step back into fics after 1) a big hiatus and 2) many, many, many unfinished ideas and other fics that have never seen the light of day. one of the biggest rules is that mr. gaiman apparently writes his first drafts by hand with a fountain pen, and then proceeds to make edits as he moves it to digital and goes from there.
and honestly? i LOVE this writing technique, even despite the smaller hiccups ive had with going back to just pen and paper, and i HAVE been making incredible progress considering my busy ass schedule lmao. so far ive written 25 pages of the fic in this silly little journal (im sure it’ll be shorter once i transfer it to a proper google doc and make some much needed edits, but still!!), and while i still have a bit to go, i can definitely say the end of the first draft is on the horizon :)) (also, huge shout out to hozier bc ngl, after seeing his concert and listening to his music more i FINALLY conquered my fear/weird ick of writing smut for male characters which was one of the biggest reasons i wanted to take part in this event!!)
so, yeah!! the “deadline” will probably be more like the end of october, bc length be damned i WILL have this fic out for spooky season or at least try my damnest to make it happen. also, if you feel so inclined to try something new to get out of a writing funk or just for funsies, i highly recommend giving just paper and pen a whirl :))

possible hot take: i think a lot of modern issues with younger people in fandoms using ai to finish fanfics or character bots would be completely solved if we just brought back roleplay blogs and roleplaying with friends in general
it’s WAY more fun to pretend you’re actually your favorite fictional character or even a fun oc that you love and cherish dearly than to trust a non-sentient bot who doesn’t know what it means to be alive to get that shit right (imo)
