Hi Star! Yeah, I finally gave in and watched K-pop Demon Hunters and I loved it!

So about the soundtrack, I think it’s phenomenal as a whole, but I’ll try to rank the main songs even though they’re honestly all so good (and this is coming from someone who has a bit of background in K-pop, but not that much, I’m mostly a BTS ARMY these days so I don’t really consider myself a K-pop fan, and even with that, I thought the songs were insanely good). So here is my ranking from favourite to least favourite:

1. “Your Idol”

So I already admit that if the Saja Boys were real, they would’ve taken my soul lmaooo. Their demon performance is in my opinion the best performance of the movie and I just love Jinu’s vocals in this song. The music video for this song is constantly on repeat, it’s just such a good song despite its meaning in the plot.

2. “How It’s Done”

I just love this song and I feel like people in the fandom overlook it, perhaps because it’s the opening song of the movie, I don’t really know why, but I am obsessed with this song. The beat and again the girls’ vocals in this song are just so satisfying, so this one has also been on repeat for a few days now. I’ve also watched the music video a few times by now. The music video works perfectly with the beats of the song, anyway this whole song is just so satisfying.

3. “Free”

That’s honestly such a good ballad (I think it’s a ballad lolol) and it’s such a sweet scene between Rumi and Jinu, how they’re both talking about their insecurities and how they can open up to the other, themes that I vibe with in ships. And also Jinu’s vocals in this song are insane. Rumi too, but there’s a moment when he raps, and again, it sounds so satisfying.

4. “What It Sounds Like”

I just like the hopeful and ethereal sound coming from this song, like there’s something holy and sacred, which there kinda is since it’s the song that strengthens the Honmoon at the end of the movie and brings everyone back from “Your Idol” lmaooo, and although I haven’t listened to this song as much as the first three, after recently listening to it again, this song really blew my mind. Love the theme and it’s just a really powerful song.

5. “Golden”

I’m sorry if the main song is this low on my list lolol, but “Golden” is fine for me. It’s a really good song too, don’t get me wrong, but yeah it’s hard to rank so many good songs, so that’s why “Golden” is in 5th place for me. I didn’t replay it as much as the others so maybe that’s what influenced this position lolol.

6. “Soda Pop”

“Soda Pop” is just such a cute song! Like I think other songs are a bit better than Soda Pop, but this song reminds me a lot of BTS English era with “Dynamite”, “Butter” and “Permission to Dance”, which is not my favourite era from BTS but it reminds me of them a lot in that song, so that’s why it’s higher than “Takedown”. It’s also the song that made me curious about K-pop Demon Hunters because of the BTS similarities (like the purple wave in the music video and Baby is so Yoongi-coded, no seriously) but it’s honestly a really cute song and the music video is nice too.

7. “Takedown”

So like I said, all the songs in K-pop Demon Hunters are amazing, even “Takedown” although we don’t really hear it as well as the others, maybe only in the credits scene and it’s TWICE’s version, so I kinda feel bad to rank it so low because it’s genuinely a good song. But yeah, since it’s a subject of disagreement between the girls and it’s filled with prejudices against demons, it didn’t really get a spotlight the way the others have despite the beat being insane, so that’s why it goes last for me. But honestly this soundtrack as a whole just slaps and it was very hard to rank them (except maybe “Your Idol” which is really #1 for me ahaha).

Shoutout also to “Strategy” by TWICE which is also on repeat (such a good background song) and Jinu’s unreleased introduction song (which is honestly so good and I don’t understand why they didn’t include a full version of it in the official soundtrack because I really loved it).

As for my favourite characters, Jinu is definitely one of my favourites. I’m just so invested in his backstory and the way he became a demon is so fascinating to me. Not to mention his voice actor might’ve probably been my favourite from the movie (although everyone really did such a good job on the voice acting) and I like his little bird and tiger demons, they’re both really adorable. His appearance also slightly reminds me of Jungkook (I’m so sorry about the BTS references lmaooo but once you make these connections, you can’t unsee them lolol), so I’m definitely biased about why Jinu is among my favourites.

Huntrix are also really good characters, but the one I vibed with the most is probably Mira, just because I love how blunt and unapologetically herself she is throughout the movie and I was feeling her on a very personal level lolol. But I really love Zoey and Rumi too, especially her relationship with Jinu which is also really cute (and I will never get over the footsie thing, I had a Levihan flashback of that when the fandom was questioning the anime footsie thing lolol, so that definitely sent me to see how Rujinu shippers were analyzing that in the movie). I also like how Rumi is also half demon and she has to come to terms with accepting that side of her, that was honestly a really compelling plot point for me. And I love the Huntrix manager, he’s so funny and supportive of the girls! Definitely another one of my favs from this movie.

Serendipity: Cisco x Harry; Falling in love as if it were fate and longing to be loved in return. You place this person on a pedestal as your angel, your world.

Euphoria: Cisco x Cynthia; The feelings of being in love, giving yourself wholly to one person and placing your happiness in them.

Singularity: Cisco x Eobard; Losing yourself in a ‘love’ that winds up being toxic. Now, you do not have an identity outside of this ‘love’.
