Black-throated Blue Warbler
I've always wanted to see one of these. They're so different, and so stunning. But they're quite rare around where I bird, and I'd never seen one. I assumed that if I was ever lucky enough to see one it would be the drabber female (which is still a very cool bird).
Nope. This gorgeous dude showed up in the backyard of a local birder last weekend, and he (the birder) was kind enough to let people know that if they wanted to come see the bird he was open to that; just email him for directions.
I'm pretty sure my email was the first one sent. :-)
And yes, I thought of you, @anonsally, when I saw this bird, too. I always think of you when I see students from Parulidae Junior High, especially when it's an exchange student from out of state, like this one.
