Spoilers, but without context

The rules of the game are simple: I give you the facts – you draw your own conclusions.

Shall we begin?

1. White lilies

Due to their significance, lilies are often used at funerals in various countries, and Japan is no exception.

Purity and innocence... Sorrow and respect, peace and tranquility. They also have a special place in Christianity, as they symbolize the resurrection and the transition of the soul to eternity, and are often used as an association with the Madonna.

2. The page of book

Just in the case, I remind you how it works (described in chapter 58, pages 22-24):

«A page is capable of making everything written in it come true, but there is a limitation: The text written in it must have narrative integrity and cause-and-effect relationships. For example, the inscription: "Once upon a time, humanity for some reason became extinct" will not be able to become a reality»

3. Promised land

This phrase has already been heard from Fyodor's mouth in chapter 46, page 43.

«In that case, someday (or "in the future") In the Promised Land» P.S. Sometimes verbs are not written in manga if they are already clear from the context.

The promised land is the biblical term for Canaan (Palestine), which God, according to the Old Testament, promised to Abraham and his descendants. In a figurative sense, this popular expression means a cherished, ideal place, a land of abundance or a goal of passionate aspirations, where people dream of going. It is also found in Islam and also affects Palestine (and it is also a bit related to the end of the world, so I strongly advise you to study the story of the prophet Moses (peace be upon him) and the concept of the Day of Judgment)

4. London

Carriages in England have been actively used since about 1780, and their end came sometime in 1910-14.

In 1862, Fyodor Dostoevsky visited London for a short period of time. He left his impressions of him in the essay «Winter notes on summer impressions»

Natsume Soseki was in London (after studying) from 1900 to 1902.

He described the city as full of fog and horse-drawn carriages, which coexisted with the first cars and the developing subway.

I think I might have missed a lot of things, but... In any case, this chapter leaves only the type of questions.:

Have any significant characters been buried in the Port Mafia? (Akutagawa, Gin, Tachihara) Where is Dazai? Where is Sigma? What about Gogol?

What about Naomi's past?

Well, anyway...

And I hope we'll live to see the end of the second one, ha ha ha...

Am I the only one who found this scene so unnecessary?

Notice Fyodor's eyes. They lack this specific fuzzines hes always depicted with in two panels.

As we know, eyes are insanely important for characters in bsd. You know, for example how they might suggest if the character is telling the truth(Nikolai), or how they with akutagawa for example they were always that deep black(except a recent scene a few chapter ago(might be wring btw))

Any ideas on what it may mean here? My theory is that it means that fyodor genuinely has no plan here, because up to that point hes had quite a few aces up his sleeve. The only part that confuses me now is that this effect comes back in the last scene right before he closes his eyes, but maybe we can explain it by assuming Fyodors new plan is just dying now. (Only if he does in fact die for real now.) I think he wouldnt have said his last words "I hate you all" if he didnt at least think he was over.

I don't know, but Fyodor's ending felt underwhelming. It could be because I'm more used to high-action shonen, or the monthly releases played a part in it. It could also be because in manga form, the fights aren't that interesting. But I feel like part of how underwhelming it is is just meant to be. Fyodor never fought; he always hid behind his wits and much more powerful beings. And that just kind of ended up being his downfall. I know that some people think that Fyodor is an uninteresting character, but his ideology about abilities and ability users being a sin is really interesting. Now that he's dead, I wonder if this ideology will come back to like, "haunted the narrative". Does that make sense?

I might go in depth about that in a future post, but now I'm going to get to my thoughts on the chapter.

I love how Ranpo is here as if he could do something to stop Fyodor.

This scene gives off Gaby shooting Eren's head from Attack on Titan. I did not expect Fukuchi to come back, but it's not like he stayed alive long after anyways.

There's something really poetic about this that I just can't explain. Here we have double suicide as a literal double suicide. There's also something about Dazai's expression here. I wouldn't say that it's sad per se...but he's not overjoyed about it either.

I feel like this is important. At the end of the day, we don't know who Fyodor is. Will this come back in part 2? I really think Fyodor will come back to haunt the narrative.
