fun facts about mosses:

- they do not kill your grass. their presence probably means you have spot where your yard gets too much water, the ph is too acidic, the soil is too compacted, it’s too shady, etc

- in a city (especially a damp one with shady spots) the presence of some moss types can indicate air quality, if you aren’t spraying to kill them that is. no moss generally means bad breathing conditions

Not often I post plant photos, but thought these epiphytes growing in our local ‘Temperate Rainforest’ (Horner Woods ) were rather beautiful. The ferns are Polypody, the only native tree fern, which once established on a branch accumulates wet humus around its leaf junctions. This enables aggressive bryophytes to establish, forming moss balls as here.Jochen Langbein
