I HATE THAT UNDER THE RED HOOD MAKES PPL THINK JASON WAS UNLOVED!!!
I don’t care how popular the concept is (even if I like it too) what it’s caused, sucks to me. Seeing how much even in small snippets of older comics that Bruce cared so so much about Jason. It just makes me feel sick.
Maybe that’s extreme.
It makes me feel disgusted. And deep down, I guess I don’t enjoy the fact that different writers are just allowed to do anything instead of doing their best to continue a story. I know saying thats like screaming into the void BUT it just feels weird! Why not make it an elseworld?
Back to my point, I’m sick of people doing the same thing over and over. Bruce for some reason hates Jason. He’s got no reason to.
For all intense and purposes, Jason was a child who was excited to be given a better chance but might’ve had anger issues from being abused. And people act like somehow the abused child acting out at any time is an indictment on their whole life. I don’t like that. I don’t like that a lot of the things that we’re good about Jason are just skipped. That he was just GHE CRAZY ONE. For a stint.
Heck, I’m not even that fond of the fact that he’s considered the angry one when very clearly Dick Grayson has a very strong and lengthy history in that regard. (HE WAS IMMEDIATELY TRYING TO KILL HIS PARENTS MURDERERS) Which by the way isn’t a bad thing before any Grayson fans start trying to defend him. Much to the contrary I think that having contrasting personality traits make somebody more interesting not less. Personally I’m not fond of perfect characters.
But like in the comics they make a point to show that before Jason even dies Bruce’s worst nightmare is his death. That’s what the fear gas showed him. Jason Todd’s grave. His worst fear.
So of course that would mean that he’d come back and Bruce would just abuse JASON!! 🤪 that makes total sense. (if you cannot guess that that is sarcasm that’s a you problem.)
I hate that people make him sound like he’s an accident. I hate that people try and write that Bruce would see him as an accident. Bruce almost killed the Joker in the middle of the UN on live international TV. In the 70s. Where there was no coming back from that. But sure he didn’t care about Jason for his “no kill rule”. He then wouldn’t stop fighting crime so violently that he nearly killed himself and a new child had to become his conscience. But suuuuuuurre he definitely never cared at all.
He treated Tim like shit because he was scared to open up again. After losing his child in such a devastating and emotionally crushing way. But sure, Jason’s death, was a BIG nothing MISTAKE. His grieving time gave him a whole bunch of different really cool stories but let’s ignore those so that we can say. “Batman doesn’t care about JASON!”
Jason haunted the narrative for so long it was a massive deal bringing him back. Killing him did not get rid of him.
So under the red hood, despite being really fun writing (As an alternate universe) Is now just somehow Canon. But it doesn’t make sense if you think about it for even five seconds. Because why was Bruce grieving? Why is his no kill rule was so strong he couldn’t be bothered to stop the joker? Why did he need Tim? If Jason was only a mistake. Why did he deal with ANY OF IT?
It’s why I really want to make a different version of under the red hood. I have no idea what I’ll call it. But this “ good soldier.” Crap has bugged me for far too long. Jason wasn’t a good soldier. He was a good son. Period point blank.
And if Bruce saw that Jason’s grave was disturbed he would have lost his mind. He would’ve gone just as far as he did for Damian to find the body. BECAUSE That was HIS son! You don’t mess with ANY OF THEM dead or alive. ( them =batfam)
As joker said right after he realised how fucked he was moments after killing Jason “he’s a vengeful one that that batman”
So Jason missing in life or death would be constantly on Bruce’s mind. He would be utterly devastated to learn that Jason went through any of that. He would be LIVID that Talia LIED ABOUT HIS DEATH. That alone could wreck their entire relationship.
It’s not hard to tell a cohesive story. So I WILL do it myself!
