okay lies im still gonna liveblog a little bit let me live out my blogger dreams… the river is really cool bc the songwriting is a lot simpler than say asbury park nj, but there’s a larger range of emotional material yk? you can see bruce becoming a storyteller more so than a poet, like he was on asbury park nj. he’s weaving emotion through the plots and characters that he’s creating, rather than evoking that emotion through word salad. he also switches to telling things in a characters voice… the songs seem so deeply real but not like bruce is experiencing them himself….. does this make sense?
