She had tried running but the group pursued her like a pack of wolves, and she had no choice but to fight; she didn't want to run anymore. Maybe it was foolish to take on nine people on her own, stupid, but it wouldn't be the first time and she's gotten out of worse predicaments before. She's been at this for over a year... She can do it.
The adrenaline kept her going, even after she was shot in the abdomen by a rifle. She managed to take out most of them through stealth before she slowed down. The street was busy, riddled with vehicles that may have once been stuck in traffic and buildings on either side of the road. Good cover. But eventually she could feel the fatigue setting in, losing too much blood. So she decided to change her tactics. There were only three left anyway.
She shot one of them with an arrow that she coated with her own blood. He would turn, and that gave her the opportunity to jump the last guy while he was busy panicking over his newly infected friend attacking his other buddy. Maybe she should have gone that route from the beginning... Makes it easier for her.
Nonetheless... They were dead β well, save for the two who were now just mindless slaves to the infection. Either way, no longer a problem for her. They wouldn't attack her, in fact they pretty much ignored her existence when she came out of hiding to approach the one with the arrow still sticking out of his shoulder.
She pulled the arrow out, stepping back from the infected man as his body spasmed and his mouth dropped open to let out a long, almost inhuman groan. His arms twitched, reeling up toward his chest and then for a brief second he froze, bloodshot eyes flung their attention down the street. The other runner roaming nearby immediately caught on, and they both roared, a wailing that would send chills down the spine.
The two infected men propelled themselves forward with no regard for anything in their way, the one plunged by Bailey, forcibly pushing her out of the way. She winced from the sudden shove, an arm wrapped around her wound as if that would stop the pain. She turned to see what they were barreling towards. The only thing that slowed them down was having to weave around the cars, that is if they didnβt just throw themselves over them. More people? Were they reinforcements? She ducked behind a rusted car, the tires flat and the windows smashed, and she hoped they hadn't seen her.
