#broken reflection (actor)

Something isn’t right. Mark is looking at you funny. Things had been going fine up until now - the two of you chatting away like you always do. You do know he has moments where an unrelated idea will suddenly hit him, but this didn’t look like that. If anything, he’s staring at you.

“You’re funny,” he says, tilting his head to one side, then the other. “I like you. You need to take it easy though. Too much stress with make you sad, and everything’s so much better when you’re happy.” He reaches forward and presses both thumbs against either side of your mouth, pulling your lips into a smile.

“Oh yes, you’ll do nicely. Such a pretty face. A mask would keep it safe from the world. Wouldn’t that be nice? To be able to smile and not have to worry about all the problems bothering you?” You blink, noticing Mark’s skin begin to shift. At first, your heart jumps into your mouth when you realise it’s grey. Is this Darkiplier?! But instead, other markings appear along his jaw and under his blackened eyes. Whoever this is, they’re weirding you out, or, at least you think they are. That smile does seem sort of friendly now. Maybe they do mean well. It is better to be happy, right?

Mark Doom (WKM):

This is my Actor!Mark.

In the good days, he bore a lot of resemblance to our Mark. He was a social butterfly, but only ever kept a small few as true friends.

Fond of the dramatics, but knows when to be serious. He’ll do anything he can to make sure his friends are okay.

A dreamer. He wanted the perfect life his parents had. This included finding his ‘true love’ (Celine), buying a beautiful mansion and having staff, and having a small, wonderful family. 

By the time of WKM, he just wanted to die and stay dead. That’s why he was in such good form that entire night. To him, this was the end.

The Actor/Maskiplier:

A Void creature that had spent time consuming Mark Doom. Each time the poor man entered the Void, a piece of his humanity was taken and replaced with shadows. By his final death, Mark Doom gave up and surrendered to the entity lingering within.

Has flittered over the century between places. Has an eerie air to him, and is keen to help others feel better.

The Mask Cult was his influence. It’s how he gains the upper hand. The more people who put on masks, the more disguises he can take. His main one is Mayor Damien, but the one he truly wants is his ‘fixed’ original - Mark.

The grin is nearly always there, and he tends to tilt his head from side to side. It’s a little creepy. 

Mark Iplier (Heist!Mark)

A variant of Actor!Mark. After spending years playing the same games as the hero to best Dark, Wilford, and other enemies he’s met, he decides to take a break.

He reinvents himself as Mark Iplier, an ordinary teenager. The plan was to use it as a hiatus role to keep out of the way until he was ready... But as he settled in the role he completely forgot his previous life.

Mark has a large case of ‘I’m forgetting something important in my life’, but has no idea what.

Without an assigned ‘role’, Mark is a drifter, always on the hunt for some big ‘thing’. He often hops around various temporary and part-time jobs, and often talks about big adventures that might spark that thrill or answer questions. It could be why he organised the Heist in the first place - the secret hope that the artefact could help explain everything.

The reader/viewer is his best - and only - friend. Please help him make new friends. :(

Aside from the missing piece in his life, Mark is the best of Mark Doom - upbeat, funny, ready to cause light-hearted chaos. If he ever did find out about the Actor past, he’d be disappointed in himself.
