Here is why I love the arts and sports: they remain bridges between people. I got this shirt in January I believe, but never wore it until today (yeah I have a T-shirt issue with no shame). I must’ve been stopped by five or six people who appreciated it, mostly because of the nostalgia and good feelings those names conjured with an era close to thirty years ago. The kids asked me if I knew this one guy I started talking to. I said, “No never met him before. He just commented on my shirt and we started talking about the past.” I told him my story in a nutshell and how I’m 4,000 miles from home, yet this place is very special to me. That guy gave me directions to a Mexican spot that we were unsure of how to get to. By the end of that convo, it was like me and this man almost hugged each other, yet we just nodded. He probably went on to smile walking down the busy street. I know I did. Once again, just about everything I do is purposeful for a bigger cause: creativity borne from a desire to be heard and build connections and to put a twist on the mundane. That’s what it’s about.
