Throwback Thursday: Original DKC development artwork by James Ryman, exploring possibilities for the villains that would later become the Kremlings.  Of particular note is the menacing âKruddâ on the right, distinctly showing early elements of King K. Roolâs wardrobe. Menacing as this villain looks, if K, Rool shares a first name with his prototypical counterpart, we fully understand why he chooses to only go by his first initial and surname. These images and more are currently being shared by Gregg Mayles over on Twitter.  For the rest, check #DKCrevealed.
So...letâs talk about the Blue Bipedal Elephant Genie in the room.
This King K. Rool costume was announced Thursday as paid DLC for the current generation of Super Smash Bros.  Rather surprisingly, it takes design cues from both his recent PAON-introduced look, as well as his classic Rare design. This announcement comes as the Smash Ballot, the public poll in which fans can vote for which characters theyâd like to see added to the playable Smash Bros roster, is still ongoing.  As King K. Rool has had a large push by fans and been perceived to be a front-runner of the public-opinion poll, many have seen the reveal of this costume as a cop-out (or âKing Kop-Outâ, coined by DK Vine Staffer Matt): this Mii costume DLC is seen as being created to placate those who wanted K. Rool to be a full-fledged fighter, because there is no developer interest in adding K. Rool as a playable character otherwise, regardless of the number of votes he receives in the poll. ...Buuuut it could also, well, not mean that.  Smash Bros pre-release periods have demonstrated time and time again that they are often unpredictable, which means now, more than ever, is the time to keep letting the voices that want a playable King K. Rool in Smash Bros be heard.
If up until now, youâve been voting for King K. Rool to be in Smash Bros. For Wii U and 3DS as part of the Smash Ballot, or encouraging others to do so, donât let reading into this announcement discourage you:  The Smash Ballot is open until October.  Whether youâre enjoying this DLC costume or see it as a bad omen, if your goal was to see King K. Rool topping the charts because you want to see him as a playable character in Smash Bros, donât abandon it; continue to #KroctheVote at https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/us/ and let it be known that the Kremling monarch has an audience.
Of course, if you havenât been pulling for K. Rool because you were already (or also) rooting for the inclusion of also-popular candidates like Banjo-Kazooie (as endorsed by Head-of-Xbox-Division Phil Spencer) or Dixie Kong, keep at it! Â We at DK Vine would love to see any of Rareâs classic characters show up and go toe-to-toe with Nintendoâs All-Stars.
Tuesday Tunes: This remix of âGang-Plank Galleonâ was featured in Super Smash Bros Brawl, recurring in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. ...Wouldn't it be nice to have a certain character to go with it?
Who do Japanese Gamers want to Join the Battle?
Web Wednesday: According to this study, three of the top-five requested (new) DLC characters for Super Smash Bros For among Japanese fans are DKU characters, with King K. Rool taking the top spot!  It means little in terms of any of these characters making it into the game, but it's always nice to see people clamoring to see these characters in the spotlight.

DKU Comix! Archives - 9/7/2014
For those unaware, DK Vine contributor Nick (AKA Spuzzwick) has generously taken it upon himself to provide us with a weekly comic feature! Â Previously only available on the main site, we now plan to host the new entries to DKU Comix! every week, here on Tumblr.
Of course, since Nick started providing us with these comics long before we had a Tumbl(a)r, we've got to play a bit of catch-up. Â So, we'll be posting two comics from the archives each Sunday, until we get to the most recent.
If you don't wish to wait, you can also read the most recent DKU Comix in the Main Site archive, right here.  Also, be sure to check out the artist's  deviantART page for more jagged-lined goodness.Â
