I still can't believe that the show had Maekar desperately scream for Aerion in the trial, call him "my boy", then sit in Aerion's bedroom to watch over him as he sleeps. Like, they really did that. Literally exactly what I wanted, they plucked it from my brain and put it on screen. They did that for me and I'm so grateful.
So we know Aerion usually stays on his best behavior when Maekar is around, and that's why he only killed Hardyng's horse when Maekar wasn't there. But what if he acted out because Maekar specifically left to look for Daeron and Egg? Aerion's supposed to be the golden boy and daddy's favourite, but now suddenly Maekar is fretting over his missing brothers instead of paying attention to Aerion. Maekar skips Aerion's joust because he is more concerned with finding Daeron and Egg. Aerion's jealous ass was probably seething that his "inferior" brothers were stealing his limelight and Maekar's focus. Killing the horse both released his anger and ensured he earned back his number 1 spot as Receiver of Maekar's Undivided Attention. Just look at this face:
"Oh father isn't here for my joust because of those other two? Watch this then, uncle. Daeron and Aegon think they're so funny well I'm about to be hilarious."

He can fight and is strong and is most like you, but unfortunately he's also a deranged psychopath :/ But he's still your baby boy so you love him and will do anything to keep him safe. So when he does something stupid (again) and demands a trial of seven, you're upset, but you're not going to let your son be killed!!! You're going to fight alongside him, protect him, and kill whoever wants to harm him. But then your brother, whom you love so much but also resent because he's just so fucking perfect and kind and handsome and beautiful (ugh), fights against you and your son. And during the fight, you're thinking of nothing but your son's safety, it's chaos, you're wildly swinging your mace, trying desperately to reach him, you can hear his screams of pain. By the end of it, your beloved brother is dead. And they tell you that you're the one who killed him. Your son is safe, but now you can't even look at him the same way again. He caused this situation with his violent uncontrollable behavior, your brother was right all along. You killed your brother to protect your son and now you're broken. You love your son so much but you can't bear the pain of looking at him anymore. So you send him far away, hoping he'll change his ways for the better and stop hurting people. But he doesn't understand why his father is sending him away, do you want him gone? Do you hate him? Why are you doing this father? Don't you love him?? Yes you do. You always will. He's your baby.
