quirks
focus:
people whose eyes are tinted bright olive -
sometimes called light gray-green,
or even muted green-gold -
don't see us as we see them.
to these lookers, we are all floating
in a murky aquatic netherland,
and human speech is understood
by reading the bubble stream from a speaker's mouth.
oysters are popular.
if you find this unlikely:
i ask you to dive deep, deep down
into your least-visited memories and beliefs,
and ask yourself questions similar to these -
>what's your earliest memory? forget the verbal version
you've told people. Concentrate - what was the sensory
blotch? if there was time, what was the sensory sequence?
were you "human?"
>what will your death feel, look, sound, taste and smell like?
>do you believe in god or not? everybody is at least leaning.
recapitulate, slowly, the interior events that, over the years,
led you to your position. how anxious are you about being right?
>if you believe, what does god look like, feel like, sound like?
why?
>if you believe, what will you experience after death?
you must go into some detail.
>do you think the human species will soon be wiped out?
what makes you so sure - ideas, or feelings?
>what is the face of the most beautiful, affectionate, devoted
human lover you can ever conceive meeting on earth?
visualize the face in complete detail, to the smallest feature,
in color, speaking to you, so that if you had the power
your lover would materialize. will you ever succeed?
>do you believe in ghosts? angels? fairies? demons? kelpies?
if you don't, are you disappointed?
footnote:
the deep material of every human mind is alien to every other
human mind. Billions of inputs in life's early decades form an
associational mosaic that cannot be assimilated by rational
socialization.
