I'm having trouble finding a source on the reject modernity quote- all I'm finding is about a guy who used the word and probably would have thought that, but didn't actually say it? Basically I can't find anything that says that it's ever been used by Nazis. I'm not saying i don't believe you, i just want to get my facts straight. Do you have a source? I actually can't find anything that isn't like know your meme
Well the first thing on the recommended search function at the bottom of the page on my google page took me to Julius Evola, well known fascist whose wikipedia article is here, and thereâs plenty of references to modernity versus tradition there to the point that iâm super skeptical itâs a coincidence, even if the direct quote isnât from him afaik. furthermore, this link from the know your meme page (which btw looks to be well-referenced enough that i wouldnât dismiss it as a bad source like you appear to be doing) and this reddit post both show examples of it being tied to alt-right sources: namely a christian twitter account calling itself âthe counter revolutionâ which i wouldnât trust not be be right wing further than i could throw it; and pewdiepie, which is enough said.
tl;dr is although i canât find evidence of it having been used by/originating from actual nazis, it has sufficiently obvious rhetorical connections with notable fascists and implications of the same rhetoric, and has gained sufficient traction within alt-right circles of the internet, that I donât want to see that shit on my dashboard.Â
[Image description for links: the first one is a link to the wikipedia article for Julius Evola. The second one links to a picture of a tweet by user Counter-Revolution with the handle @TheCounterRev, showing a statue of an angel with a glitchy blue and red background and the text âdefend the faith/embrace tradition/reject modernity/we are with godâ. The third one links to a Reddit thread, from a post with the caption âPewdiepieâs fans just get worse and worseâ, showing a tweet with the caption âIdk who made this but itâs near perfectâ and a picture of Pewdiepie and his wife with the text âreject modernity/embrace traditionâ.]
