we’re still in a pandemic, all restrictions have been stripped, inflation is at an all time high, we’re in the midst of a housing/renting crisis, we’re about to experience a massive flood of chronically disabled young people that will certainly overwhelm our already precarious healthcare system, and the planet is fucking dying. 

like what actually is the fucking point? what do we do, who is going to help us, what is there to be hopeful for? im so tired of people telling me to “vote in the midterms” like we are so fully past that. it’s too late for that. we’ve been repeatedly asked to have faith in a government that has not helped us and has only proved its incompetence. 

i'm sorry for being mia lately; i've had a lot going on personally, and ive been having a hard time with writing. i really appreciate the asks and requests ive received, and i'm gonna do my best to work on them!

the entire theme of reputation, especially the LWYMMD music video, I think will be so important and is so smart strategically for taylor’s long-term career...she got to address every single criticism that’s been unfairly thrown at her over the years, acknowledge that yes, she’s heard/seen them, while simultaneously making the joke better than the critics can and finally ending the conversation. not only did she get the last laugh, but she compiled all of these different reputations she has into one video, to show people what an absolutely ridiculous and impossible character people created. 

if taylor had chose a different song or narrative to lead this era with, I’m not sure if she would have been able to leave the drama of the past behind. like, if gorgeous or something was the lead single, people would talk about the song & probably like it...but every single review, think-piece, tweet, etc. would still center around something like “but lol does she know that her reputation’s dead” or “ew what a snake” or “but how does taylor REALLY feel about the drama?” 

instead taylor so incessantly made the media joke her own (the excess of snake imagery, the obvious brash campy drama of LWYMMD, etc.) that it seems like the media/general public...is tired of that narrative themselves. it’s no longer that funny, or frankly people no longer care about it. it’s old news, and they’re interested/eager for taylor to release new content. 

after “killing” the old taylor & addressing her reputation head-on, taylor told a story of growth and redemption from pain in the rest of the album. she’s paved the way for the 2016 drama to be a turning point in her narrative, but not the entire story. she’s now free to explore other themes creatively, without every new project being drawn back into “but what about being a snake, etc.
