Breaking away is not the solution!
After being in the church ministry for 8 years and having associated with many Pastors and leaders, we all have seen how easy it is for division to arise than uniting over a vision. From the sacred portals of the church to the blessed institution of marriage to the multi-million dollar establishments, we have seen time and again divisive forces at work. Â Friends for years and then a sudden misunderstanding, it all rips apart.
Why does division occur? What should be the steps in responding to a potential divisive situation?
1) For the maximum cases, division occurs when ego and self-centredness takes priority over the common goal. When we pursue a common goal, we should be teachable, willing to forego anything that divides and take the first step in issue resolution. In marriages when issues arise, we should stick to the common ground that nothing should separate the covenant of love we have given to one another.
2) Honoring the leadership. When we misunderstand the motives of the leaders, we tend to miss out on aligning ourselves with the vision. Leaders in an organization will shuffle, change roles and responsibilities and try doing all best seeing the vision accomplishment. Honor the leaders for the sound decisions they take and don’t back bite. Being loyal to your leader and goal will fetch good rewards in the future. Yet if the leadership is biased and the agenda is not right, seek an appointment, clarify the issues and move on.
3)At times we may be asked to take the back seat. In those situations, its best to understand the leader’s goal for us and work with all the heart towards that. If the leader is not satisfied with your performance, he may say it to you and we should have guts to take the right suggestions for improvements. Life is not always having the steering wheel, sometimes back seats are good to refocus and reorient and stage a mighty comeback.
4) Seek to understand the big picture. Â Leaders evaluate all possibilities and take a decision. When we go against the rule book, the responsible leaders have all rights to show a flag. When we are on the wrong side, its always better to express regret or apologise for the issue.Â
5) Seek counsel from learned, experienced good mentors or friends before you hit the panic button. Being a good listener to sound counsel can prevent us from many problems.
6) Breaking away instinct is never good. Life is not just meant to keep breaking away when our egos are hurt. Keep trying. Be a role model. We are surrounded by children who lack the love of a mother or father because of a small marital issue. Never be divisive. Keep seeking the better of one another and do the work together.
“Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.”(Proverbs 18:1)

Both sides now by Joni Mitchell
Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air and feather canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way. But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone. So many things I would have done but clouds got in my way. I've looked at clouds from both sides now, from up and down, and still somehow it's cloud illusions I recall. I really don't know clouds at all. Moons and Junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way that you feel as every fairy tale comes real; I've looked at love that way. But now it's just another show. You leave 'em laughing when you go and if you care, don't let them know, don't give yourself away. I've looked at love from both sides now, from give and take, and still somehow it's love's illusions that I recall. I really don't know love at all. Tears and fears and feeling proud, to say "I love you" right out loud, dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I've looked at life that way. But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say I've changed. Something's lost but something's gained in living every day. I've looked at life from both sides now, from win and lose, and still somehow it's life's illusions I recall. I really don't know life at all.
