Mustnāt say it, mustnāt say it, MUSTNāT SAY ITā¦
ā¦Rare Birds ATLās latest single Breakfast Gin again distils the spirit [Dāoh! Ed.] of swaggering 70s southern soul-infused rock. Blasting us back to a time when heatwaves were to be enjoyed, not treated as signs of the coming apocalypse; lead in petrol (when you could get it) put lead in your pencil; striking was a national pastime; and two B&H Gold and a buildersā tea was the breakfast of champions.
Andrew Cylarās sinewy, elastic guitar, and propulsive bass and drums from Ben Jenkins and Shawn Thacker conjure a strutting Stones-y groove (thatās sure to give you Jagger-bobbing whiplash), topped with highly Brandon Nealās Rodgersesque lithe lead vocals. Thereās the usual briefest bursts of judicious soloing from Andrew and even some proper Honkette-style girly BVs to complete the rollicking retro feel.
Corking, up-beat, blood-stirring stuff from an era when probably the only good thing was the music: get your platforms on, pick up your neck brace by the door and get on down!
Breakfast Gin is out everywhere on 22nd July, thatās TOMORROW (or today if youāre reading it late) including here: https://rarebirdsatl.bandcamp.com/music
