{{ Manhattan Bridge, New York {{ Mid-Morning
The rumble of cars across the bridge is almost deafening, though the further away from the asphalt one travels, the more bearable it becomes. There are walkways for a reason, guard rails keeping the populace safe; nobody wants to have a dizzy spell causing a fall, or worse yet, get thrown over the edge.It doesn’t stop every problem that passes through, but generally, the bridge is safe.
Of course there’s a man standing on the other side of the guard rails. Of course he appears balanced precariously on what little footing there is on the wrong side of comfort and safety. His hands lightly grip the railing behind him, wedding band glinting golden in the sun. He’s curiously still as he looks out over the river, over the expanse of New York City herself.
People walk by, though it’s not just one person ignoring the man. The joggers and walker, bicyclists, and even drivers all pass him. Every so often one of them will glance in his general direction, squinting slightly and looking somewhat confused before shrugging and continuing on. Others let their gaze drift, like something is just outside their peripheral, hurrying along with unease.
But nobody stops to talk to the man. They hardly seem to know he’s even there.
